His Biography is: Jonathan Young
served as President Clinton's liaison to the disability community
from 1998-2001. He is the author of Equality of Opportunity: The
Making of the Americans with Disabilities Act, published by the
National Council on Disability. He holds a Ph.D. in American history
from the University of North Carolina and is presently a second-year
J.D. candidate at Yale Law School.
His reason for supporting General Clark
is as follow:
I’m writing to ask for your support
in voting for Wes Clark.
We’ve all heard Justin Dart’s statement that we all
must get involved in politics as if our lives depended upon it,
because they do. This year’s presidential election makes
that admonition more true than ever. The ADA is under siege. State
cuts in social services are having a disproportionate impact on
people with disabilities. And millions of people with disabilities
continue to be forced to stay out of work or, worse, be forced
into institutions -- because our country is failing to enforce
civil rights and provide the services and supports necessary for
people with disabilities to take their rightful place in the mainstream
of American life.
Having served as President Clinton’s liaison to the disability
community, I have taken seriously the task of evaluating the Democratic
candidates and identifying someone who has both a strong disability
platform AND the strength to win in November. I hope you’ll
join me in backing Wes Clark as the candidate who will win in
November, get our country back on track, and deliver the kinds
of results our community needs.
WES CLARK IS STRONG ON DISABILITY POLICY!
We should all be proud that our efforts at having candidates
listen to our voices are paying off. Thanks in part to a challenge
issued by ADA Author Tony Coelho, most of the Democratic candidates
have responded with bold commitments that would make a huge difference
in the lives of people with disabilities.
Here are some of Wes Clark’s commitments:
* Appointing judges who will uphold the ADA
* passing an ADA Restoration Act that would restore the ADA to
its original scope of coverage
* fixing the recent Medicare prescription drug legislation to
ensure that people with disabilities don’t lose coverage
* Providing health coverage to everyone under age 22 and making
it more affordable for all Americans to gain decent health coverage
* opposing efforts to turn Medicaid into block grants to states
* advocating for passage of MiCASSA
* providing financial support to states to alleviate their pressure
to cut services to people with disabilities
* supporting full funding for IDEA
* enhancing IDEA enforcement and focusing more on preparing students
with disabilities for the transition from school to work
* increasing the availability of affordable and accessible housing
* enabling people with disabilities to retain access to critical
benefits when they go to work
* Ensuring that polling places are accessible so that the voice
of people with disabilities is counted on election day
* Giving people with disabilities a meaningful voice in the White
House with a full-time advisor on disability issues, and appointing
an administration that includes people with disabilities

Wes Clark’s disability platform is strong, and he’ll
implement it. I’m also working with the Clark campaign to
strengthen his disability platform and welcome your assistance.
But Clark’s disability policy platform not the only reason
I support General Clark.
WES CLARK IS A CANDIDATE WHO CAN BEAT BUSH!
We need a Democratic candidate who can WIN in November! We can’t
afford four more years of the policies and practices of the current
administration.
A great disability platform doesn’t mean much if you don’t
win in the general election and have a chance to implement the
platform. Winning in the general election means competing in all
regions of the country and appealing to Republicans and Independents
as well as Democrats. It also means being strong on foreign policy
as well as domestic policy. Wes Clark has this broad appeal and
is the Democratic candidate best positioned to win state-by-state
and get the electoral votes needed to become president.
General Clark has and will listen to people with disabilities,
and he’ll deliver results. I hope you’ll join me in
helping to elect him the next President of the United States.
I’m honored to serve as the Chair of Wes Clark’s
Disability Advisory Council. I welcome your support of the Clark
campaign and I’d love to hear from you at jmy4clark@yahoo.com.

His reason for supporting General Clark
is as follows:
When General Clark announced that he was going to run for the
President of the United States, then I knew that he would need
a disabled presce on the web! General Clark is a good man with
strong character and great leadership and that is what our country
needs at this time.
